views from the expo 'Mind Map' (Glass hall- school of arts, Ghent).

(collaboration between Leslie Page, Lore Tyrions and me)
work around a part of our routine: melancholy.

We wanted to concretize this by capturing things that were playing inside our minds and made a setup with those.
The presented video shows a compilation of sentences, that together formed a sort of connection of thought in what otherwise seems a solitair state.

("still")

views from the expo 'Stationary Motion' (Minus One Ghent).

To stand still by standing still.
Thoughts are  inevitable occuring phenomenons that continuously pop up, whether they're wanted or not.  The works presented in this exposition shows the capturing of them in another way.
Instead of letting thoughts taking charge, occuring whenever they'd come up, I tried to get a grip on them.
Thus a spontaneous act was transformed into nothing more then a curated moment. The act of thinking -normally spontaneous and existing out of smaller fractions- was by this action reduced to a timelength of writing full an entire sheet of paper. The texts formed are results from the stream of conciousness, a curated form to be written down, but without the possibility of it being unblocked by  external (surrounding) factors,
the materials presented are materials that translate and explain the concept.

'movement'

("movement")

Installation existing out of a spontanious formation made as movie setting.
Actions can be seen as copies of former deeds, each time going a little bit different then the ones you did before.  The intention of the film was to show an act of routine, concretized by hand-drawings that follow endless waves of getting up and going down. This action was filmed and eventually became a beginning process.
The shown film gives the spectator a view from the joints between two drawings; in between-scenes,the act of setting the scene up for a new one.

For this work I began working around the fact that people come and go. Everybody nowadays has experienced the loss of someone nearby, whether it was an acquaintance or a good friend. People come and people go: as fast as they appear they can disappear without a former sense of notion . It’s an unstoppable circle by which we continue ourselves to learn lessons, and refresh our minds by letting go of people that don’t seem to enrich our lives anymore. It's a continuous road we walk on  that eventually brings both balance as imbalance.   This eventually leads us to a certain form of individualism. The human being is initially a herd animal –hungry and needing for other people to be around- but with the upcoming of the individualistic thinking -including the goods and the bads-, most of us seem to begin living their lives centered only by themselves and thus coming to our essence of being: alone.
